Abstract

Organisational psychology focuses on psychological factors that enhance institutional performance. National Colleges of Education, central to teacher education in Sri Lanka, face ongoing quality issues. This study examined the impacts of transformational leadership and work engagement on job performance, with job satisfaction as a mediator. In this exploratory study, data were collected from 226 teacher educators through a structured online questionnaire. Relationships among variables were analysed using the Structural Equation Modelling with Partial Least Squares. Seven hypotheses were tested, and five were supported. Accordingly, work engagement significantly impacts both job satisfaction and job performance, with job satisfaction partially mediating this relationship. Transformational leadership had a moderate direct effect on job performance but did not significantly influence job satisfaction or indirectly impact job performance. These findings highlight the key roles of work engagement and job satisfaction in enhancing job performance. Future research may explore alternative leadership styles to identify more effective strategies.
